CycloCross

On Sunday 20th November, over 230 cyclists (including 83 under 12’s) braved the snowy conditions at Parc Bryn Bach to compete in Round 9 of the Welsh Cyclocross League.

Cyclo-cross is off-road cycle racing on grass and tracks on a circuit of up to one mile in length.  It’s usually held in public parks or on sports fields and is technically and physically less demanding than mountain biking.

The event was a great success with lots of positive feedback received from competitors and spectators alike.

The winners for each category were: -

Under 8’s
Finlay Storrie (Maindy Flyers)
Efanna Lewis (Ystwyth CC)

Under 10’s
Cian Evans (The Bulls)
Evelyn Nurse (Cardiff JIF)

Under 12’s
Kieron Heuberger (Gower Riders)
Evelyn Higgins-Worrall (Abergavenny RC)

Youth & Novice Women
Iwan Evans (The Bulls)
Ella Maclean-Howell (Cardiff JIF)

Veteran 40 Men
Tim Davies (CC Abergavenny)

Women & Veteran Men
Grant Johnson (Sunset Cycles)
Ffion James (Abergavenny RC)

Senior and Junior Men
Steve James (Hope Factory Racing)
Max Gibbons (Ludlow Brewery RT)

Ffion James, sister of Olympic track gold medallist Becky James, not only won in her category (Women and Veteran Men) but also became the new Welsh champion at the event!

Congratulations to everyone for taking part!
