 Aneurin Leisure Aquathlon

On Saturday 20th May Ebbw Vale Sports Centre hosted the first ever Aneurin Leisure Aquathlon which saw a total of 46 people from all over the County Borough competing.

The event was open to anyone over the age of 12 who wanted to participate and consisted of a 400 metre swim in the pool at Ebbw Vale Sports Centre followed by a 5K run along a road circuit around the Works Site.

Alun King finished in first place for the Men’s category with a time of 25 minutes and 23 seconds and Charlotte Ralph finished first in the Women’s category with a time of 28 minutes and 21 seconds.

Both winners were presented with a voucher for a month’s free life membership to the three Blaenau Gwent based Sports Centres at Abertillery, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar by Philip Matthews from the Inspire Sports Development Team and Sian Hughes from the Board of Aneurin Leisure Trustees.

Anthony Hughes, Managing Director of Aneurin Leisure said of the event: “It was great to see so many people coming out to support our first Aquathlon event for the Trust last weekend.  This is our second sporting event of this type, following on from our highly successful Festive 5K Run last December, and although the day presented some challenges for our competitors, the exuberant atmosphere and spirit of competition was truly inspirational.

The event proved to be hugely popular and drew lots of positive feedback from participants and audience members alike.

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all our staff, competitors, supporters and volunteers for all their efforts to make the day such a success.”

Feedback from our supporters included:

“Absolutely fab event! Thank you so much to the organisers and the fab marshals!” – Nicola

“Fantastic event, thanks very much!” – Jessica

“Fab event, very well organised.  Look forward to more events including kids in sport.” – Sherril
