Adventures in Wonderland with Blaenau Gwent Libraries
'Adventures in Wonderland' is an exciting new library based project which for the first time combines reading, discussion and social media, all based around Lewis Caroll's famous story Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
The project uses a free app called 'TwLetteratura', which enables the participants to read chapters of the book across the same time period, and share their comments via a twitter based feature. The comments can then be viewed, liked and replied to by other participants using the app.
The Libraries Service in Blaenau Gwent has worked with a range of partners, including Literature Wales, Arts Council of Wales, Cardiff University and Head4Arts to deliver this new, exciting project.
A range of promotional activities have also been held across all our libraries, including Dementia Friendly events, coffee mornings, reading groups and children's art and craft sessions, all on the theme of Alice in Wonderland.
An end of project celebration event is being held at Abertillery Library on Monday 13th November from 3pm - 5pm which is suitable for all ages and open to everyone. The free event will be a showcase of people's experiences and the work they produced, and also provide a variety of fun activities including face-painting, arts and crafts, storytelling and printing. Free refreshments will also be available.
Tracy Jones, Library Services Manager said: “During the last couple of months all our libraries have held a range of workshops and events promoting our new 'Adventures in Wonderland' reading scheme. The project has enabled the service to engage with families in new, innovative ways using Alice in Wonderland themed events. The TwLetteratura app has also been a great feature of the project - enabling people from all over Blaenau Gwent to connect and share their thoughts and comments with each on the book they’ve all been reading, whether it’s from the comfort of their own home, or at one of our group sessions.”
