Aneurin Leisure Sports Awards

On Friday 16th February Bedwellty House in Tredegar played host to the Aneurin Leisure Sports Awards, a prestigious event organized by our team of Young Ambassadors to honour and celebrate the amazing work being done by individuals and sports clubs in Blaenau Gwent.

The Guest Speaker for the awards ceremony was the inspirational Darren Carew, Disability Coach for the WRU, who talked about his journey from being injured during his time in the army serving in Helmand Province, where he suffered a mild traumatic brain injury and damage to his foot and ankle that would ultimately lead to an amputation four years later, to his rehabilitation and eventual job coaching for the WRU.

Throughout the evening a variety of award presentations were made for outstanding contributions by volunteers and sports clubs, including Mark Howell who has been an active volunteer in sport in Blaenau Gwent for over twenty years, who was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award. 
 
The evening was a resounding success, and the organising committee would like to thank all nominees, guests and VIPs for attending. Thanks also go to Bedwellty House staff for their excellent work on the night, and to Welsh Chair Cover company, DG Wedding & Events Services and sponsors of the Disability Award Arriva Trains Wales.

Anthony Hughes, Managing Director of Aneurin Leisure said of the evening; “It is fantastic to be able to recognize the incredible work being done by people in the community to not only deliver and promote sporting activities to the residents of Blaenau Gwent, but also to inspire people of all ages to get involved in physical activity and develop a lifelong passion for it.

This event has been a huge success and I would like to congratulate and thank our Young Ambassadors for all their dedication and hard work in putting this together for us all tonight.

Alex Craven, Volunteer of the Year tweeted after the event; “Thank you to everyone who helped me through my time at Aneurin Leisure, especially Chris Garrett. Without Chris, I wouldn’t be here today! Thank you also to all the young people who let me help them and support me in everything I do.”

Top Two Inches, a Mentoring and Coaching provider who works with many of our Young Ambassadors also tweeted: “I was certainly in the right room last night surrounded by inspirational people! Brilliant to see Aneurin Leisure and Inspire Sports Development truly empowering their young people at their flagship event.”
