The Ebbw Vale Learning Action Centre Wednesday night Photography Class has recently enjoyed some excellent outdoor practical sessions to Dunraven Bay and Pontneddfechan waterfalls.
The class which has been running at the centre for ten years under the stewardship of Phillip Slaughter continues to thrive and the examination results stay amongst the highest in the country, but it’s much more than about the grades.
The class caters for the beginner to the experienced enthusiast, there is no competition, everyone works with everyone else to make the class the success it is and the reason why so many learners return year on year.
Mindfulness and wellbeing are two keywords that many are familiar with today and I speak from my personal experience of how this class helped me through a difficult period of my life when I was living on haemodialysis, the Wednesday night class gave me a focus and walking into the lesson you knew you were amongst friends and could catch up on the week gone by.
It has been a couple of years since I completed my last qualification with Phillip, but we have continued to keep in touch and he has always been on hand to offer advice when needed.
Since becoming a Trustee of Aneurin Leisure following my election to Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, I have been eager to join the class on an outdoor session, the unprecedented inclement weather put it on hold, but eventually when it happened, it was well worth the wait, visiting such picturesque locations as Dunraven Bay and the waterfalls at Pontneddfechan has certainly whetted my appetite and I look forward to enrolling to the class for 2018/19 in September.
