Monday 21st January 2019 has the dubious honour of being dubbed ‘Blue Monday’, the most depressing day of the year. The excitement and fun of the festive season is over and as the third Monday of January approaches many of us will be struggling with issues of low motivation, dissatisfaction with our routine, failed New Year’s resolutions, gloominess about the winter weather and worries over unpaid debts.
Although there are some factors that are beyond our control, this year people are being encouraged to tackle the impending gloominess by making a change and committing to setting aside some time on Monday to do something that they enjoy; so here’s some suggestions from us on how Aneurin Leisure can help:
- Get Active
Exercise releases a whole host of natural hormones, so why not visit your local Sports Centre for a mood boosting workout; you could hit the gym, go for a swim, join a group exercise class or even take your friends along for a game of football or badminton.
If you’re struggling to maintain your New Year’s Resolution to improve your health and fitness, why not have a chat with one of our staff? They can provide help and support to help you achieve your goals, and if you’re a life member you can access our free Activate Life service, which provides an in-depth health check that can be repeated every few weeks to track your progress.
- Read a Book
If you’re looking for your next great read, our six Libraries throughout Blaenau Gwent provide a huge and varied range of free books, e-books and e-magazines that are suitable for people of all ages and interests.
Our new online BorrowBox service also enables you to browse through thousands of e-books and e-audiobooks for children and adults 24/7 from the comfort of your own home, so there’s no need to miss out even if you don’t have time to get to the library.
