Our Heritage Section within Aneurin Leisure aims to protect and promote the area's unique heritage, archaeology and museums.

We hope to enhance the quality of life of the people of Blaenau Gwent by our strong commitment to support and develop heritage activities, which will benefit our local residents and communities.

Blaenau Gwent Youth Heritage Project

If you live in Blaenau Gwent, are aged 16-25, are unemployed and would like to get involved in a volunteering project that will get you out and about with other people your age, then this is just the project for you!

Not interested in HERITAGE?  What about ARCHAEOLOGY!

The project is open to young people aged 16-25 and will involve working on a range of archaeological sites in Blaenau Gwent.  After training, the volunteering commitment will be 1 day per week and the volunteering time will be credited towards the Millennium Volunteer Award Programme and is supported by Gwirvol, Glamorgan Gwent Archaeological Trust, Blaenau Gwent CBC, GAVO and A4E Ebbw Vale.

Volunteers can expect training in archaeological site management, recording and maintenance of sites. They can also expect opportunities for acquiring skills for the workplace, including team building, leadership, self-reliance and communication.

Once the project is underway there will be one special role for an IT literate person to put the information collected from the sites into a national database.

The project also includes the opportunity to put on an exhibition of work and there will be some social and public media training too.

Day-to-day expenses are available (terms and conditions apply).

If you have a reasonable level of literacy and numeracy, enjoy being out and about in the open air, and would like to work with professional archaeologists then give Jan a call on 01792 634236 or email with Youth Heritage Project in the subject line.
