Dementia Action Week at Blaenau Gwent Libraries
From Monday 20th May to Sunday 26th May, it’s Dementia Action Week – a week that unites individuals, workplaces and communities to take action and improve the lives of people living with dementia.
Every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia. This means that almost all of us know someone affected by dementia – a family member, friend, neighbour or work colleague – and it doesn’t just affect older people.
We all have a role to play in making the UK a dementia-friendly place to live, so throughout the week some of our libraries in Blaenau Gwent will be offering free dementia friendly activities:
- Dementia Friendly Sing-A-Long at Blaina Library on Monday 20th May from 2pm – 3.30pm.
- Dementia Café at Tredegar Library on Thursday 23rd May from 12pm – 3pm offering free refreshments, reminiscence activities, information and support.
- Memories of Cwm at Cwm Library on Friday 24th May from 2.30pm – 4.30pm, where people of all ages can come together to share their photos and memories of Cwm.
Reading Well Books on Prescription for Dementia recommends books that you may find helpful if you have dementia, are caring for someone with dementia or want to know more about the condition. The books have all been recommended by health professionals and include information and advice, help after diagnosis, practical support for carers and personal stories.
