While our Sports Centres have been closed as part of the Alert Level 4 restrictions in Wales, many of our staff have been volunteering their time to help at the mass vaccination centre in the General Offices in Ebbw Vale.

In total 21 members of our sports centre and sports development staff have worked in a voluntary capacity performing a variety of supporting roles since the vaccination centre opened, including meeting and greeting people attending the centre for their vaccination and car parking duties.

Heather said that she feels that those in the NHS have worked so hard throughout the pandemic, including her cousin who works in ITU in the Grange Hospital with people critically ill from the virus, saying; “If I can help just a little bit, I know that will help her and her team with the numbers coming down.”

Serena says that; “The sooner I can get back to work to work the better, so if by helping out here it gets us there quicker then I'm in.”

“It's been a pleasure to help the NHS out” said Diane, adding that; “It was so rewarding to see people so happy after receiving the vaccine.”

Clair added; “Throughout this pandemic, the NHS and all their dedicated staff have been our shining stars! I just wanted to give something back, to the NHS and the community. I feel immensely proud to be part of the volunteer team and the smiles and good wishes from the community we are helping has been overwhelming and heart-warming."

Following his first volunteering shift Chris took the time to recognise the commitment, professionalism and dedication of the vaccination teams by contacting the clinical lead. His communication was fed back to those on 'the front line' who have been equally complimentary of all those volunteering.

Well done everyone!
