Aneurin Leisure Trust has reopened its sports centres after a full gym refurbishment of its three sites.

During the last lockdown, the Trust’s team completed a refurbishment of their fitness gyms, following a £600,000 investment in new equipment for their Ebbw Vale, Abertillery and Tredegar sports centres, replacing its previous dated kit. The new kit’s functionality was developed in consultation with members and provides an unbeatable resource for the whole community.

Tom Kivell, Aneurin Leisure Trust’s Fitness Development Manager, says: “The excitement among the team is huge as we welcome members back to our sports centres. Our decision to procure Precor’s top line resolute strength and P82 cardio equipment, Preva Business Suite and Sony Advagym was based on the desire to provide a fully digitised experience for our members, meaning members can track and build on their fitness goals wherever they are.”

Jamie Davies, Abertillery Sports Centre Team Lead added: “Our aim is to improve the health and wellbeing, both physically and mentally of the community we serve, and the new system will provide us with insights on how we meet their needs and how we improve our service.”

Lynn Phillips, Corporate Director for Education at Blaenau Gwent Council, says: “We continue to have a close working relationship with the Aneurin Leisure Trust, and together we are committed to providing the people of Blaenau Gwent with the very best leisure and cultural opportunities in line with our Leisure & Culture Strategy.

“We work hard with a range of partners to promote the importance of leisure activities and their role in enhancing the physical and mental health and wellbeing of our residents. This new equipment is a fantastic addition to sports centres here in Blaenau Gwent, and I think people who were already looking forward to get back into their wellbeing and fitness regimes will be even more excited now.”

Phill Sykes, Operations Director for the Trust added: “This is a significant development in the Trust’s offer to the community of Blaenau Gwent. We recognise that the pandemic has been difficult for everyone and have invested in training for our sports centres’ teams to ensure that they can help each member to restart their own fitness journey and feel comfortable with the new equipment.

The initial response from our members has been fantastic and we’re delighted to welcome all the new members who are starting their fitness journey at our sports centres.”
