Children’s Services

You're never too young to visit one of our Blaenau Gwent Libraries!

There are so many benefits to sharing books from an early age; you’ll discover a world of knowledge and fun at your local library which is guaranteed to inspire a lifelong love of reading.

We have a great range of titles for children of all ages to choose from; whether you’re looking for bedtime reading, learning support, young adult fiction, reference books or graphic novels – we have something for everyone!

With free computer access and a range of regular iPad sessions, fun activities and themed events to keep you entertained, libraries are a great place to have fun, do your homework or even just meet up with friends.

How to Join

Children can join the library at any age – it’s completely FREE; just bring along some proof of your name and age and a parent/guardian to sign your application.

Computers & Internet

All our Blalenau Gwent Libraries offer FREE Wi-Fi, computer and internet access and have a limited number of iPads to use within the library, allowing visitors to access a range of software and online services: -

  • Browse the internet
  • Use social media
  • Access your emails
  • Create or edit your own documents
  • Use an iPad
  • Use our FREE wi-fi

Computer sessions can be booked in advance, or if there are computers available during your visit, you can ask a mamber of staff to use one there and then.

If you haven’t used our computers before, you will be required to sign our Acceptable Use Policy; children under the age of 16 must have this signed by a parent/guardian in the presence of a member of staff.


Become a Member

It’s so simple to join the library – so become a member today!

You can join at any one of our six libraries around Blaenau Gwent; all you need is a formal piece of identification that shows your name and address (e.g. Driver’s licence, passport or utility bill).

Children under the age of 16 require the signature of a parent or guardian.

Once you’re a library member you can borrow:

  • A combination of 15 books and/or audiobooks for up to 3 week
  • 2 Playstation 3/Xbox 360/Nintendo Wii games per week


The late return of items including books will incur a charge for people aged over 18.

Home Delivery Service

If you’re unable to access our Blaenau Gwent Libraries you can get a range of books, audiobooks on CD and DVDs delivered right to your door!

The Libraries Home Delivery Service is available to all homes in Blaenau Gwent, including sheltered accommodation and nursing homes and delivers books on a three weekly rota.

Residents of Blaenau Gwent who are visually impaired can be referred to the Home Delivery Service and receive audiobooks on CD or support to use services offered by the RNIB or Talking Newspapers UK.
