Shwmae Su’mae Day at Blaenau Gwent Libraries

Shwmae Su'mae Day, held annually on October 15th, encourages everyone to give Welsh a go by greeting everyone with a 'Shwmae' or 'Su'mae'.

To celebrate the day, our libraries across Blaenau Gwent will be hosting a variety of FREE activities for adults and children on Tuesday 15th October, to give them a taste of using Welsh or learning more about it in the fun and friendly setting of their local library.

  •  Welsh Language Taster Workshop - Learn basic words and phrases in this fun and friendly session for beginners at Tredegar Library from 10am – 11am.

  •  Welsh Teatime - Join us for a cuppa and some delicious Welsh cakes at Cwm and Brynmawr Library from 10am – 11am.

  •  Story Time with Bethan & Dewi - Join Bethan and her little dragon puppet Dewi for a fun Welsh-themed story time at Cwm Library from 3.30pm – 4.40pm.  Suitable for ages 3 – 7.

  •  Craft Activities - Come and join us as we make a paper plate dragon!  Available at Brynmawr, Cwm, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar Library from 3pm – 4.30pm.  Suitable for ages 3 – 11.

On Saturday 19th October Ebbw Vale Library will be hosting a special Author Visit with Chris Morgan, the author of The Green Lady of Caerphilly Castle, who will be sharing an excerpt of his children’s book and doing a Q and A session on it.  The event is suitable for ages 8+ and runs from 11am – 12pm.

Throughout the week from 14th to 19th October each of our libraries will have displays featuring a range of Welsh language titles for adults and children, and there will be FREE Welsh themed activity sheets for children to enjoy as well.
