St. David’s Day Celebrations

We have a wonderful range of Welsh themed activities happening around Aneurin Leisure Trust to celebrate St. David’s Day this year.

All of our six libraries located across Blaenau Gwent will be showcasing their Welsh language books in a series of curated book displays for people to browse, and will have FREE Welsh themed colouring and activity sheets for children to complete during their visit to the library from Monday, 24th February to Saturday, 1st March.

Our libraries at Abertillery, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar will also be providing FREE St. David’s Day themed craft activities on Saturday, 1st March, creating paper plate daffodil wreaths that the children can take home with them. These activities will be available on a drop-in basis throughout the morning from 9.30am - 12pm, so no booking is necessary.

Our Adult Community Learning Centres have also been busy preparing for St. David’s Day, with our ILS (Independent Living Skills) students creating a wonderful range of Welsh themed pottery items in their classes, including daffodils, Welsh ladies, Welsh dragons, miners and mining lamps. Select items are now on sale at Ebbw Vale Adult Community Learning Centre, with all proceeds going to purchase more materials for the class to continue their creative journey.

Join Tredegar Orpheus Male Voice Choir for a special Welsh themed evening of music and song on Wednesday, 26th February 7pm at Bedwellty House and Park. Tickets are £8 per person and includes a glass of Bucks Fizz or juice and Welsh cakes on arrival. Booking is essential, purchase your tickets online here.

Visit our Orchid House Tea Room at Bedwellty House and Park to enjoy our special St. David’s Day Afternoon Tea, which is available daily from Saturday, 1st to Sunday, 9th March. Featuring classic Welsh favourites such as Glamorgan sausage, Welsh rarebit, bara brith and Welsh cakes as well as a selection of delicate finger sandwiches and sweet treats, all followed by a freshly baked scone with jam and cream.

All afternoon teas are served with a choice of tea or coffee and are priced at £21 per adult and £13.50 per child. Vegan and vegetarian options are available, please be sure to specify your dietary requirements on booking.
