Summer Fun with Aneurin Leisure

Join us through the summer holidays for a varied range of fun filled activities for children of all ages at our Aneurin Leisure venues across Blaenau Gwent.

 

Sports Centres

This summer our Playschemes are available each week at all three of our sports centres, offering a mix of multi-sports activities for children aged 8 – 12 years followed by an optional FREE swim session.  Sessions are £6 per child.

Abertillery Sports Centre will also be hosting two FREE fun sessions organised by our Sports Development team on Thursday 29th August.  The Summer Extravaganza for ages 8-12 takes place from 10am – 1.30pm, providing a range of multi-sports activities followed by a swim session, with free lunch provided for all participants.  The Under 8s Summer Party takes place from 2.30pm – 4pm and provides a fun range of multi-sport games, arts and crafts and a bouncy castle.

For young people aged 11+ (Year 7 of school) each of our sports centres also have weekly Junior Gym sessions (£4 per person), where they can access our state-of-the-art facilities without needing to be accompanied by an adult:

  • Abertillery: weekdays 10am – 6pm | weekends all day

  • Ebbw Vale: weekdays 10am – 6pm | weekends all day 

  • Tredegar: weekdays 10am – 11am & 2.45pm – 4pm | weekends 10am – 11am

 

Libraries

This summer, children aged 4-11 can visit any of our Blaenau Gwent Libraries and join the 'Marvellous Makers' Summer Reading Challenge, firing up their imaginations through the power of reading and creative expression.  The challenge offers fun incentives and prizes for children who read 6 books throughout the summer holidays, ask at your local library for more information.

Our libraries will also be hosting a range of FREE Marvellous Makers themed activities for children, including Create with Clay workshops and a Family Ukulele Session (booking is essential for these events).

Throughout August children of all ages can also explore their creativity with our FREE weekly Marvellous Making Time craft sessions, no booking is necessary for these drop-in sessions:

  • Blaina Library on Mondays from 2pm – 4pm

  • Brynmawr Library on Tuesdays from 9am – 12.30pm

  • Tredegar Library on Wednesdays from 2pm – 5pm

  • Cwm Library on Thursdays from 2pm – 5pm

  • Abertillery Library on Thursdays from 2pm – 5pm

  • Ebbw Vale Library on Fridays from 9am – 1pm

 

Bedwellty House and Park

Join us at Bedwellty House and Park for an interactive summer of fun for children of all ages.  Louby Lou Stories will be joining us for a range of imaginative story trails through the park each Tuesday including Superhero Smash, Egyptian Adventures and Wolf’s Fairy Tales, on Tuesday 27th August they will also be heading inside for Space Explorers an indoor pop-up story.

The fun continues with the Little Soldiers Boot Camp on Monday 19th August, fun science shenanigans with a Radical Rockets workshop with ExperiMENTAL Science on Wednesday 21st August and an interactive animal roadshow with Animal Encounters on Wednesday 28th August.

Parc Bryn Bach

In addition to our usual popular attractions like the children’s play area, mini golf course, driving range and beautiful walking trails, Parc Bryn Bach also has a weekly programme of fun filled adventure activities for children of all ages as well as some introductory courses for adults this summer.

Cave and Climb is available every day from 12pm – 5pm, offering children the opportunity to explore our custom made caving container and scale our climbing wall, no booking is required for these activities, and the cost is £3.50 for one activity or £7 for two.  Paddlesport Hire is also available, allowing visitors of all ages to explore the lake either on a sit-on-top kayak, canoe or SUP board.

Weekly adventure activities are also available including; archery tag, activity days, bush craft sessions, climbing club, gorge walking, hill walking days, mountain bike taster sessions, paddlesports taster sessions, raft building challenges and tiki SUP.

For those wanting to learn the basics of stand up paddleboarding, there’s also a selection of Intro to SUP courses for people aged 14+
