Whitsun Activities

We have a variety of fun filled activities for children of all ages throughout the Whitsun school holidays at our venues across Blaenau Gwent.

Libraries

If you’re looking for a fun story to share with your family or a good read to keep you or your teens entertained during the holidays, all our libraries have an amazing selection of fiction and non-fiction titles to borrow – available as books, e-books and e-audiobooks.  We even have a fantastic selection of FREE e-magazines to browse, borrow and download.

Each of our libraries will also have a range of free drop in activities for children to enjoy, such as treasure hunts and crafts – ask at your local library for more info.

Our sports libraries are also available at Abertillery, Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar offering a range of sports equipment and games sets that are free to borrow for library members. Equipment includes foam flyers, tennis racquets and balls, badminton sets, cricket sets and a range of balls (football, rugby, basketball and netball).  All items are FREE to borrow for a 3-week period, subject to availability. 

Sports Centres

Our popular Playschemes will be returning to all three of our sports centres offering a range of sports themed activities and a swim session for children aged 8 – 12.  Sessions are £5.65 per child, and pre-booking is essential as spaces are limited:

Bedwellty House & Park

Join the Louby Lou storytelling team for Gingerbread’s Great Escape, a bonkers storytelling adventure through Bedwellty Park for children aged 3-8 on Tuesday 30th May.  Book online at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/loubyloustories

For adventurers aged 6+ we also have two fantastic Nerf Wars sessions on Friday 2nd June; 11am – 12.30pm for ages 6-8 and 1pm – 2.30pm for ages 9+.  The sessions cost £12.50 per child and can be booked by calling 01495 353397.

The Orchid House Tea Room will be open daily from 10.30am - 4.30pm offering a wide range of lunch options, snacks and refreshments. Our tennis courts in the park will also be open daily and are FREE to use.

Parc Bryn Bach

Parc Bryn Bach has lots of fun activities for all the family and is open daily from 8.30am – 8.30pm.  All our car parks are FREE to use, as is the children’s play area and all our walking trails around the park. 

Onsite facilities include mini golf (£4.50 per person), go-kart hire which can be booked online at https://www.parcbrynbach.co.uk/go-karts and a golf driving range.  We also have a dog friendly café and outdoor kiosk serving a range of snacks and refreshments.

For adventure seekers of all ages, we also have a range of extra activities throughout the Whitsun school holidays:

  • Climb & Cave – suitable for ages 4+

  • Paddlesport Hire – suitable for adults and children

  • Tiki SUP – suitable for ages 8+

  • Adventure Activity Day – suitable for ages 8 - 14

  • Female Only Intro to SUP – suitable for ages 16+

  • Intro to SUP - suitable for ages 16+
