National Exercise Referral Scheme
The National Exercise Referral Scheme (NERS) is an evidence-based health intervention that incorporates physical activity and behavioural change. Its aim is to reduce the inequalities caused by ill health and the BG Exercise Referral team provides tailored and supervised physical activity programmes for those referred to the scheme.
Your GP or health professional will complete a referral for you on request to this scheme if it is appropriate to improve your recovery or overall well-being. The BG Exercise Referral team undertakes an initial consultation which can be done virtually or face-to-face and a tailored, 16-week plan is developed that encompasses:
An exercise and fitness programme which can be undertaken at our sports centres or through virtual support by the team
Health improvement monitoring over the course of the 16-week intervention at weeks 4, 8 and 16-week evaluation
Advice on nutrition and diet to help you improve your overall wellbeing
The team undertakes regular progress meetings and through social media hosts exercise videos for you to follow in the comfort of your own home.
