The cost of buying books, magazines or even e-Book/e-Audiobook subscriptions, can be expensive, but you can access a huge number of titles in different formats at your local library, completely free of charge!
A free library membership not only entitles you to borrow up to 10 books every 3 weeks, but it also gives you access to a world of free e-Books, e-Audiobooks, e-Magazines and even e-Newspapers via the BorrowBox app, which is available 24/7.
Our libraries offer a welcoming, warm space where you can lose yourself in a good book, research a new topic, or even catch up with your favourite magazines.
All of our libraries also offer free computer and WiFi access as well as a free range of activities for children of all ages, and a selection of activities and clubs for adults, including Knit n Natter, craft clubs, book clubs, Clwb Cymraeg and family history drop-in sessions.

Want to improve your health and fitness?
Take out a flexible membership at our sports centres for as little as 73p per day (with no contract) and get access to all three sports centres at Abertillery, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar, including our state-of-the-art gyms, swimming pools and over 100+ weekly group exercise classes. Our expert staff are also on hand to offer any help and support you need to achieve your wellbeing goals, including a detailed InBody scan to help you identify your goals and check in regularly with your progress.
In addition to popular group exercise classes such as spin, Zumba and Yoga, we also offer a range of internationally renowned fitness programmes and unique experiences, including:
LES MILLS – creating life changing workouts powered by science. Filled with great music and high energy, classes range from BODYPUMP (the original barbell class) to martial arts inspired BODYCOMBAT and 30-minute HIIT workout GRIT. For those looking to improve their flexibility and strength we also have yoga-inspired BODYBALANCE and a reimagined PILATES class.
HYROX – the new fitness racing programme that’s taking the world by storm. Hyrox combines both running and functional workout stations, and as the only official Hyrox gym partner in Blaenau Gwent, we offer exclusive weekly classes, regular events and full race SIMs.
QUEENAX – experience a high intensity full body workout using our custom made Queenax functional training rig in the gym. These classes provide a circuit-based session that features a range of dynamic body weight exercises carried out on the Queenax rig.
That’s not all, our sports centres all have free, accessible parking as well as changing rooms with lockers and free showers.

Our adult community learning service offers a wide range of courses for adults aged 16+. These courses are for everyone and can help you to improve your job prospects, learn new skills or improve your existing skills, and even help you to develop a new hobby.

Looking to increase your steps and enjoy more time in nature?
We have two stunning parks at Parc Bryn Bach and Bedwellty House and Park which offer the perfect destination for visitors of all ages to enjoy a stroll through nature.
Parc Bryn Bach – a Green Flag Award winning park and designated Local Nature Reserve, Parc Bryn Bach offers scenic and accessible walking trails as well as a free nature sculpture trail that take you on a tour of a diverse range of habitats.
For families we also have a free children’s play area and a range of children’s adventure activities through the school holidays. For older adventure seekers we also have a seasonal range of activities and water sports for adults. Other facilities include a golf driving range, mini golf course, go-kart hire and our dog friendly Lake View Café.
Bedwellty House and Park - a historical Grade II listed building set in gloriously maintained park grounds which provides a stunning backdrop to a number of iconic features such as the bandstand, grotto, sensory garden and the record breaking single largest piece of coal to ever be excavated in one piece.
In addition to hosting a variety of seasonal children’s activities throughout the school holidays, Bedwellty House also provides a regular programme of live entertainment, craft activities and events. The Orchid House Tea Room, which received a commendation at last year’s South Wales Tourism Awards in the Best Places to Eat category, also provides a range of lunches and refreshments as well as decadent afternoon teas and homemade Sunday lunches.
