Libraries Summer of Fun

In addition to funding received from Welsh Government to deliver free activities across our libraries this summer, The Reading Agency has also worked with our Libraries Service to deliver a variety of free author led workshops.

Malachy Doyle, a children’s author who writes stories in Welsh, Irish and English attended Ebbw Vale Library on Thursday 4th August, and with the help of some audience members, read three of his popular children's books - Ootch Cootch, The Snuggle Sandwich and Molly & The Shipwreck.

Welsh author Huw Davies visited Tredegar Library on Wednesday 17th August and read a few excerpts from his book ‘Scrambled’ before working with the audience on some creative writing exercises, helping them to create their very own stories.

Our last author workshop was on Thursday 25th August at Tredegar Library with author Karen Owen, who introduced everyone to the characters from her new book, Major and Mynah, reading some excerpts for the audience before teaching everyone about secret codes and sign language.

Here’s some feedback we’ve received on the sessions so far:

"Libraries are opening up the world and the science in it in so many amazing ways this summer, and I'm delighted to get children to think about all the things they can thank science for!" - Malachy Doyle

"I had a lovely morning at Tredegar Library, we had great fun, the children were really engaging.” - Huw Davies

"Such a lovely experience for the children, listening to a real author! ... and inspiring them to start writing their own stories!" – Parent
