New Equipment Added to our Sports Libraries

We are pleased to announce that we have added the Fitness Mad® Swiss Ball to our Sports Libraries initiative, which provides FREE loans of sports and exercise equipment from our libraries at Abertillery, Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar to the local community.

The 65cm anti-burst inflatable Fitness Mad® Swiss Ball is perfect for many different exercises and pregnancy support.

When using the ball during exercise, the body reacts to the instability targeting many different groups of muscles which become active, leading to overall improvements in your body posture, balance and health.

In relation to pregnancy, the inflatable ball has been proven to aid support and provide comfort before and after labour.  During pregnancy, it can help lower back pain by relieving pressure, strengthen core muscles leading to improved posture, and prepare the body for delivery.  The equipment is also used during labour, where mums can adopt many different positions to help ease pelvic or back pain.  Post labour, the ball may be deflated to maximise comfort and support any recovery process.

The ball can be further used as a supportive tool in aid of postural problems, with a load of up to 200kg.  Please note, that when seated, your knees and hips should be at 90 degrees, and it is recommended that those of height 5’6” – 6’0” (165cm – 185cm) would be most suitable to use this piece of equipment. A pump is also included for inflation and deflation.

All sports and exercise equipment within the Sports Libraries are FREE to borrow for a 3-week period, subject to availability.  Items available to borrow include kettlebells, resistance bands, foam flyers, badminton sets, cricket sets and a range of balls (football, rugby, basketball and netball).
