Winter of Wellbeing with Aneurin Leisure

This Winter we have received funding from the Welsh Government and The Reading Agency to put on a range of free activities for children and young people aged 0 – 25 years across Blaenau Gwent as part of the Winter of Wellbeing initiative.

The rationale behind the initiative is that in winter, our outside time is often limited but fun and physical activity don’t need to be in short supply.  So, in order to encourage children and young people to re-engage with society, reconnect with their friends and rediscover their favourite hobbies, funding has been provided to offer a package of support that can be delivered through a variety of community-based initiatives.

The aim is to create safe places for free play and physical activity where children and young people can develop and/or rebuild their social skills.

So far, the funding has been used to provide a variety of free children’s activities at Bedwellty House and Park throughout December, which included a silent disco, Christmas movie night, Santa visits and festive fun sessions.

More free activities are also planned for February and March, including art workshops and stortytelling sessions at our libraries, free access to our 3G pitches for young people aged 8-16 years at our sports centres and free activities at Bedwellty House & Park.
